> **Pros**: FreeOCR makes the process of scanning documents and converting them to text documents way easier, saving a lot of time. You can even use already scanned files as well (both images and PDF files), and once you have the text, you can format it if you want on your favorite text editor and save.

It also supports several languages, which is a feature lacking in several alternatives (as they are usually limited to just English).

> **Cons**: The interface is a bit outdated and some words can be not properly read if the page wasn't properly aligned. Other than that, it is almost perfect.

> We have been using FreeOCR to scan several old documents so we could have them in digital format. Simply said, this has saved us hundred if not thousand hours of work.

The open source OCR Engine used, which is currently maintained by Google, is surprisingly more powerful than I though.

Also, I spent almost as much time cleaning up what its output as it would have taken to type it.

> I love that I don't have to retype everything and fixing a little formatting is no trouble at all.  Definitely a life saver\!
