About Camtasia

Camtasia makes it easy to create professional-looking videos quickly — even if you’ve never made a video before.

Learn more about Camtasia

Pros:

It provides many functionality to users to edit videos immediately and add effects and filters on it. I believe Camtasia studio is well worth the cost software due to its many options and simplicity.

Cons:

At times I found it to be a little bit clunky and difficult to get it to do exactly what I needed. I do have experience with professional video editing software, and this is MUCH more simplistic.

Best choice for rookies and pros.

4.0 5 months ago

Comments: I am not a video-editing pro, I use it for recording and putting together webinars and training videos and Camtasia has always been my-go to software for years. It is very easy to start using it if you don't know anything about video editing but a miriad of additional featureas and options will make it easy. Due to its nature it might work slower on waker machines so it may take time between you click on record and it starts recording but you will always know when it does so there is no chance of recording or cutting your recording earlier. Editing is quite easy although applying smooth transitions between cuts with some efects takes some practice.

Pros:

Ease of use but losts of advanced settings for more experienced users. Can caputer the screen and your camera/audio at the same time. Lots of customizations, including capturing a piece of screen, video effects (e.g. blurring sensitive data) as well as easy editing. Great effect with little effort.

Cons:

It needs lots of resources on the machine, even for a video editing software. Additionally, rendering will take some time on a regular laptop. Some options, such as the library I found unintuitive to use.

A GREAT, quicker, Easier to learn alternative for "Almost pro-level" video creation

4.0 10 months ago

Comments: I would give it a 95 out of 100. I have very few complaints. I have created some really great looking videos that the average person would not be able to tell if this were done in a program that cost thousands more.

Pros:

Easy to get in and do screen captures and video editing. A growing library of cool animations, templates, and effects that they continually add to. Quick tools that are easy to learn to do a lot of effects that are dangerously close to pro platforms like adobe and final cut, only without the massive rendering time etc.

Cons:

Some of the effects are a little cheap looking, but the library of options continues to grow. Sometimes the crashes and bugs are annoying, but I've seen that in the big programs as well. ESPECIALLY FINAL CUT PRO

Camtasia - the best screen recording software on the planet.

5.0 2 weeks ago New

Comments: I have used for years and years. Love it. When I used to build software simulations, I would do the filming with Camtasia, even though I used high-end software like Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate. It was easier and I could import into the other software.

Pros:

Ease of use, layout, segmentation of video capture and editing into bite size chunks, tons of resources. I've been a user for over twenty years.

Cons:

Sometimes there are too many features, it can be overwhelming. Although they're working on fixing that with simpler workflows built-in.

Using Camtasia on new fast hardware

3.0 10 months ago

Comments: It does what it says on the tin and whilst the UX is terrible on a new computer with hi-res screen it's still the software of choice for me until I find something better... or they address the hi-res issues and make me stay forever ;-)

Pros:

It's the only tool I've tried that is easy to use and has all the features I'm ever likely to need.

Cons:

Since moving to a faster computer I also have a Hi-Res screen. It's very disappointing that Camtasia has not been updated to support hi-res screens and user experience was better for me on the old computer even if it was slow.

Comments: Overall I like the software and I think it's a good value for a beginner/semi professional

Pros:

The software is really easy to use with drag and drop, easy sliders, ...

Cons:

The software lakes of functionnalities compared to software like Da Vinci Resolve or Premiere Pro (Tracking, rotobrush, ...)

The Non-Corporate Enthusiast

5.0 11 months ago

Comments: I understand that further development has "corporate appeal" as its main aim. As a single user, a retired non-corporate user, I am not your principal focus. I am getting left behind as recent upgrades reflect corporate rates ($$$$) The program is of great value but upgrade costs for features that I don't use are quickly separating me as a future user. And that would be a shame.

Pros:

Camtasia is used frequenty, every week, but often daily. More than a hobbiest, it is a principal tool in my video editing toolbox.

Cons:

I am not a fan of the available navigation tools for timeline editing, but with frequent use, I have my workarounds. I would not want to be without the program.

Great overall experience with Camtasia

5.0 10 months ago

Comments: My overall experience with Camtasia has been an A+. I have taken the certification and have thoroughly enjoyed the tutorials. These have led to me being a more productive content creator.

Pros:

Camtasia has allowed me to quickly transition to the video editing world and make creative content that is both educational and stimulating. The staff at Tech Smith is always making refinements, which gives me the confidence to continue learning and creating.

Cons:

There is no formal way to request features through the software.

Camtasia Can Be a Better Fit than More Expensive Video Editors

5.0 11 months ago

Comments: Camtasia has always exceeded my expectations. It's way more powerful than people might expect, I know quite a bit about Camtasia but I totally admit there are more some features I haven't learned yet how to use but I know they exist and when I need them I know they will be there. TechSmith is also a really great company to work with, they really care about their products and making them better.

Pros:

1) The hot spot feature, it's something other tools just don't have. 2) Camtasia has pre-built features that other tools don't have, you can just do things much faster in Camtasia than what it takes me to do in Premiere and Final Cut. 3) TechSmith has made a lot of smart decisions by creating a video editor that most people can learn how to use in a short amount of time. Albeit that Camtasia is not the most advanced video editing platform but it doesn't have to be, it's perfect for the average person who needs to do some video editing. This is why I love Camtasia, I can ramp up new video editors quickly. Even my advanced video editor now sings the praises of Camtasia, he complained at first but now even he sees the light.

Cons:

We have pushed Camtasia to where it breaks with too many layers, yes I know the workarounds but this could be improved upon. I'm a little concerned about the EOL of the HTML output, please don't lose that feature because it's super important for the hot spot feature.

Great tool!

5.0 11 months ago

Comments: Overall, it’s an excellent tool. One of the things I wish the company would do is allow users to select their own premium assets instead of paying $199 for assets you may not use or need.

Pros:

The more you use it the easier it becomes!

Cons:

Sometimes moving items around on the timeline isn’t easy.

Camtasia's Ease of Use and Audio Excellence Meet Opportunities for Improvement

5.0 11 months ago

Comments: Overall, my experience with Camtasia has been quite positive. The software excels in user-friendliness, particularly in the video editing department, where it allows for quick, distraction-free editing. The unique focus feature in the audio capture function is a notable highlight, providing capabilities not seen in other editing software, which significantly enhances voiceover work and music integration. The file-sharing feature also meets my needs effectively. However, there are areas where Camtasia could improve, such as increasing the recording speed to be on par with competitors like NVIDIA's screen recorder, and expanding the color grading options to allow for more creative flexibility. Features such as face detection and beautification would also be valuable additions to the software's toolkit.

Pros:

I appreciate the simplicity and ease of initiating recordings with Camtasia. It's fantastic for quick editing without distractions. The audio capture feature stands out, especially for voiceover work and syncing with music—something not commonly found in other editing software. I've also had a positive experience with the file-sharing capabilities.

Cons:

While I'm satisfied with many aspects of Camtasia, I feel that the recording speed could be improved to match that of NVIDIA's screen recorder. The quality of recordings also has room for enhancement to reach similar standards. Additionally, I believe the color grading features could be more extensive, even in the newer versions, and I would welcome advancements like face detection and beautification tools to elevate the editing process further.

Camtasia Pro's and Con's

4.0 11 months ago

Comments: Overall is a good experience. It seems like a solid product built by solid people.

Pros:

I find Camtasia afordable and overall functional - and having a permanent license is something I enjoy a lot - for short ownership of product is something I like a lot - and I think that is some of the coolest things about Camtasia.

Cons:

In general, Camtasia is a great software, if it would not be laggy anymore, I think this would take over a lot of other products out there, so if there would be someone on product - defineltly focus on the functionality aspect of things, make it work smooth. If Camtasia would work smooth I think the number of users would start growing, other features I would keep on hold - do small improvements here and there. I would prioritize smoothness of editing - loading of assets and overall day to day operations on it. I would also probalby split the Camtasia Software as a base for editing and I would create a monetizeable library of assets for it - powered by community - with microtransactions where Camtasia keeps a certain percentage and commnunity can make money as well. This way there would be community engagement and new assets or even add-ons for editing different things.

Finish 90% of your videos in 90% less time

5.0 10 months ago

Comments: My experience with Camtasia and Techsmith in general has been very positive. It's extremely beginner friendly; the mental bandwidth necessary to get started is low. But it's more than adequate for more detailed, more polished videos too, so my whole team can safely use Camtasia, regardless of our individual level of skill.

Pros:

Camtasia is easy to use and easy to understand. Video editing pros will be satisfied with the level of control that Camtasia offers, while newbies will appreciate how intuitive and uncomplicated all the basic actions are. Camtasia makes it easy to turn an idea into a rough demo in a very short amount of time, which is its best strength. This is a critical step in the creation process, so the benefit here can't be understated.

Cons:

Though it's not lacking features or control, video editing pros and gurus will occasionally notice a small feature missing that more complex tools would have included. Also, simple animations are easy enough with Camtasia, but more complex animations are going to be laborious. Most users won't ever really run into that problem.

Does the job for me

5.0 11 months ago

Comments: Overall, very happy about Camtasia. Makes my life a lot easier :-)

Pros:

Easy-of-use and fast result - it is easy to capture the elements I need (Screen Capture), make a few edis and create and publish the video

Cons:

I have sometimes had some technical issues - mostly because Camtasia creates some temp recording that fill up space on my local storage - and eventually breaks down. Solution is to remove the temp recordings - maybe this should be something that is build into Camtasia

I keep coming back

5.0 11 months ago

Pros:

Camtasia is intuitive and easy to use. I've used other video editing software and Camtasia is my favourite because I can create videos faster. I used an older version for years because it worked just fine. I recently upgraded because there are so many new features that allow me to make even better quality videos

Cons:

I wish audio editing was part of the program. I use one other program that has an AI editor that removes background noise that I wish was part of Camtasia

Camtasia Personal and Professional Use

5.0 11 months ago

Pros:

I have used this product for years and love the ease of use. I also enjoy how easy it is to import assets.

Cons:

I struggled with storage for a while causing Camtasia to quit unexpectedly as well as clipping my recordings to 1 minute without notifying me. It took me awhile to determine what the issue was. It would be nice to have a more clear alert for issues like this.

Camtasia For Indutrial Training

4.0 11 months ago

Comments: Overall, it is a great tool that works great and gets the job done.

Pros:

Camtasia is the best tool for what we do in providing training video for machine set up and maintenance simulator training. I am also a Premiere Pro and Final Cut User, but for training you guys are top notch. The call outs, annotations and simplicity are why we choose Camtasia for this type of work.

Cons:

The only real feature I miss from my other products is the ease for white balance correction and color adjustment. I do not find it intuitive so often I will edit color in FCPX and then export back into Camtasia. I am sure with time, I could become proficient, but the addition of a luma graph, vectorscope, color wheels, white balance correction tools, etc. would be a great addition to me.

Simple, Easy, Effective

5.0 11 months ago

Comments: It allowed me to do what was needed right "out of the box" and yet has the functionality for me to grow in the tool and exploit its features.

Pros:

Camtasia is the perfect tool for those who need to make high-quality videos, yet are not video production/editors by trade. Ramp-up is quick and production is straightforward allowing you to go from install to satisfied product in short order.

Cons:

The layering of tracks can get confusing if you are working on a big project or one that has a lot of data/content.

Great for Those New to Video Editing

3.0 7 months ago

Comments: Camtasia is a tool that works and doesn't have too many frills. It doesn't take as long to learn, but for someone with experience creating and editing video, it might seem pretty limiting.

Pros:

It's a fairly easy video creation tool. It doesn't have too many frills so it isn't too challenging to learn.

Cons:

The UI is a little clunky and having "Favorites" are not all in one place. You have to go to each individual tab and find your favorites whether starred or a library you created.

Great for tutorial videos

5.0 11 months ago

Pros:

I love being able to create videos of different sizes that combine screen capture and video. It's great for tutorials. I love having the ability to Zoom in and highlight certain areas. It makes it so much more professional, dynamic and easy to follow for the watcher. I love being able to choose the size of screen capture and the size of the video. Other tools tend to have a video thay is rather small.

Cons:

I wish there were more free assets to use. The transitions or behaviors could be improved with more choices. The background remover doesn’t work all that great. Zoom does a better job. In Camtasia it's not good enough for me to use that feature. I have a cushion behind my back that Camtasia's background remover is having problem with. Zoom, with the same background can remove it without issues.

Comments: I've used Cam for years and have upgraded to newer versions often. I love it!

Pros:

Easy to pick up and produce good quality videos. As you progress, it's easy to improve and better utilise the many features. It's very cheap for what it can do. The user interface is intuitive, which cannot be said of other video editing software I've used.

Cons:

It has lots of built-in features, making it ideal for beginners, but sometimes I want to customise more than it will allow.

Great for beginners, powerful for pros

4.0 11 months ago

Comments: I actually use Camtasia most to help produce my podcast twice a month. That’s an audio version of my newsletter that I voice into Audiate and then assemble with Camtasia. I also do PowerPoint presentations and slide decks with voice overs and Camtasia is great for those.

Pros:

Easy to get started with and to come back to if you only use it every couple weeks like me. Massive number of free online tutorials to help Learn.

Technical Support is an Issue at Techsmith

2.0 5 months ago

Comments: I enjoy using the product on my PC. Transferring projects from one PC to another is very difficult.

Pros:

Can produce videos on your PC. Easy to import audio and video files.

Cons:

Poor technical support. Software is not backward compatible. Projects created in versions before 2020 (*.camproj) will not open with newer versions. The technical support group is not there on Fridays and the telephone hotline doesn't work. If you buy a Techsmith product, you will need to figure it out on your own.
