Comments: I have worked on Samsara while managing Safety and Tracking for multiple companies. The safety, tracking features and historical data they offer and speed for application is unmatchable.
We developed an inhouse application for our safety offerings and their developer freindly documentation helped a lot.

Pros:

1. Simplified and robust documentation on each and every feature. 2. Also, the compliance and rules they follow and explain is also very helpful for small companies where safety manager is not available. 3. Customizable Alerts, Document Management Tools, Customizable Mobile app 4. Developer Friendly with webhook support.

Cons:

I have not some to any such shortcomings so far. But sometimes, notification emails or alerts are not triggered on time.

Comments: Overall the experience has been very good. However, I would suggest a report be created that tells when a driver has unplugged a vehicle gateway, when it is plugged back in and how many miles were driven during the period of time the vehicle gateway is unplugged. This would be a major and helpful resource to carriers. As there are drivers that will do just about anything to get around the ELD.

Pros:

We like that it is an easier system to work with and provides tons of tools.

Cons:

The feature we like least is the Reports. Reports need to be easier with data that makes sense. Who cares what percentage of time a driver used personal conveyance for, tell what time it started and where, tell me what time it ended/where. Reports are quite convoluted and often do not make sense.

Horrible cancellation policies and practices

Comments: I own a small service and repair company where I sought out a vehicle tracking service back in 2021 to keep an eye on 3 service vans, a couple of trailers and a lift. I saw good reviews online and chose Samsara. The services they provided was a bit overkill for my small operation, and was quite pricey, but I stuck with them. In February of 2024, I started winding down my business in preparation for retirement, and I contacted Samsara and told them by phone I was closing my business and wanted to discontinue my service. They instructed me to round up all my devices and they would send me instructions to return them. I un-installed all of the trackers from my vehicles and boxed them up for return. When I called Samsara back for return instructions, they informed me I still had 6 more months on my "Contract". They also told me they no longer needed the equipment back. I was very frustrated with this situation, but went ahead and let them draft the next 6 months of payments on my credit card which they have on file (Bad mistake to give them credit card authorization). When they continued charging my charge card in August, September and beyond, I called again to stop this. They told me I had my account on "Auto-renew" and it renewed in July. Now they offered a "Settlement" where they wanted me to pay over $2,600 if I wanted to cancel the service. They have and outrageous system of "ticket requests" that expire quickly, overseas call center "Billing issues" staff and what appears to me to be a very intentional smoke and mirrors system of generating massive income from the unethical and unfair business practices of dodging cancellation requests. I have not used their tracking service for nearly a year now, and I am still fighting to stop them from drafting my credit card. If you are a small business, be very wary of this company!!!

Pros:

The tracking service worked reasonably well.

Cons:

They use very deceptive contract practices. The "overseas call center" feel billing dispute system is horrible if you are a customer.

Pros:

Ease of product. The alerts are pretty accurate. Easy installation of hardware.

Cons:

Speed limit alerts are not consistence. I know Google maps is used for speed limits, so you are locked into an inadequate system.

A Very Thorough System

Comments: So far I have had a great time with working with Samsara. They helped me with a very large transition for my company and have always been able to provide support and equipment for all my needs. Their telematics system has done wonders for organizing a lot of data for our company, including helping keep us on the ball with our drivers.

Pros:

The ease of use, good interface, helpful and quick support, consistent updates, a plethora of efficient equipment. Lots of features in how to keep track of company analytics. Speedy delivery.

Cons:

Some slow server speeds at certain times, a few oddities when using the system, some unintuitive or non-detailed information in certain reports. It can also get quite expensive, especially their shipping rates.

Comments: Overall, I am very happy with Samsara. I learn something new with it everyday.

Pros:

Consolidated invoicing!!!! Also love the ability to see my vehicles at all times and reports! I monitor vehicles and equipment for 3 different companies.

Cons:

Google maps are not updated often enough. Receive speeding alerts when posted speed limit is higher than what Samsara shows.

Comments: It has been great. Compared to older telematics having cameras showing behaviors has made all the difference.

Pros:

Aside from the great system and features, this product has always proven to show drivers it is reliable and accurate.

Cons:

It is not what I don't like about Samsara as much as it is I need to understand more about transfer old gateways that used to be assigned in old trucks into new trucks

Comments: Overall, I am satisfied. It is a good product.

Pros:

ease of administering the tool with the drivers

Cons:

Support is terrible. Access to support is the worst. Then when/if you get through, the first person you talk to can only read the screen/error. No depth of knowledge. Why cant drivers see the picture from their own devices? When running a split clock, drivers cannot view upcoming rollover hours easily. I end up sending screen shots to the drivers so they can plan.

Comments: Its been good, like the integration, customer service is bad as is hard to talk to a live person. Also the alerts don't work well, some times they don't alert when they are suppose to be trigger, and the ELD log book sometimes disconnects and the driver has to refresh to get signal so the status gets updated. The bad thing about this is that while disconnected it does not shows correct hours for carrier, alerts don't get trigger, and when stopped by DOT driver has to refresh quick because the ELD will be stock on the last status, but DIT officers don't like drivers on the phone prior of Inspections. We got a violation once from a dot office because the status was not updated. But I will still keep the service bc it helps integration with brokers and helps on tracking regardless, but needs improvement

Pros:

The GPS tracking on map works good with a Google Maps View

Cons:

Customer service, very hard to reach someone on the phone

Comments: This is THE WORST company I have ever worked with & I have been in business for over 25 years. There is NO CUSTOMER SERVICES at all. There is a call center that says they are customer service but are unable to help you. They are really a call center that forwards an email to someone else who says they will get back to you in 1 - 3 business days. I have had 2 issues in the last 11 months and the first one took 6 months and many many email for me to get my refund & this on going one has been since April. It seems that somehow I started with 1 contract & 8 units but somewhere along the way it got changed to 12 units and 2 contracts. I have only ever had 8 units. I found out during an audit of the account and have been trying to get anyone from their company on the phone since April to help me fix the account and to date there is no one!
Oh they do keep sending me follow up emails after about every 3rd I send them but they keep just saying to pay for all 12 units and have since suspended my account. It has been about a month now since they suspended the account and still no one will help me. I would 100 % never use this company again and suggest you do the same. They are only looking to make a set it and forget it system to suck in all your money and are completely no interested in dealing with me as a customer.
They need to do better!

Pros:

This is great for in the minute tracking. Anything else is a pain in the fanny.

Cons:

I find it very frustrating when I have to correct someone's log because once they logged off someone else jumped in their truck and it logged the original person back on. It counts as driving time and will not allow you to make changes so it saves a violation. The reports are impossible to obtain at one time. Noting is really user friendly. You have to have the manual with you when ever you need to do any thing or your lost.

Comments: We are very pleased to have real time information for our fleet and tagged assets.

Pros:

I love the A.I. technology, it notifies are office if a driver is distracted or playing on his phone. Safety is our priority and Samsara helps us tremendously.

Cons:

I liked the Ag46 tags the least due to disconnecting and going offline, besides that the new Ag51 tags work great.

Comments: I noticed the outstanding functionality and superiority of Samsara over our previous ELD and Safety Solution provider as soon as we switched to Samsara 2 years ago. It's been a great experience and i always look forward for new features and improvements that are offered by Samsara. "Feature Management" and "What's New" are my to-go places to learn about the newest features and improvements in Samsara and they are usually very exciting.

Pros:

I like the evolving technology in Samsara and the ability to run the operation on single platform.

Cons:

Not being able to manage equipment or vehicles (like rentals) without a VG.

Samsara or Bust

Comments: I have been using it the past 5 years and it has been a great resource for me to learn and use.

Pros:

It is a great software for tracking and elogs. I use it all week and all day from checking hours and routes. I am able to use it on my pc and phone and aslo has a app based product. It is very useful in the trucking industry. I have used other programs in the past but this one is all inclusive.

Cons:

I dislike that when I try to zoom into the maps the exit number doesn't become any more visible.

Comments: Our rep [sensitive content hidden] has been very helpful and knowledgeable. Samsara is an extremely useful tool to use when you have a large amount of drivers to keep track of.

Pros:

I like how easy it was for me to learn how to use. It helps us to keep track of how our drivers are doing out on the road. The AI is pretty accurate for the most part and I like how you can give feedback if the alert was incorrect. The cameras are also very high quality and good to have if there's ever an accident.

Cons:

Right now I'm having an issue with the camera IDs that I'm working to resolve. It's not picking up on some people who have been here for a long time and have 100% on their camera training. When it does work correctly, it's very helpful to automatically assign drivers.

Comments: Overall, this application is hands down the best vehicle tracking system we've ever used here.

Pros:

Overall we love how easy this is to use. The ability to track vehicles accurately is huge for us at Douglas Lumber. Vehicle Diagnostics is also a huge help and makes scheduling service for our fleet easy!

Cons:

The way the tracking system shows times. Trying to figure out the point in time a vehicle was near a certain address on its route is a little less cut and dry than other aspects of the tracking system.

The admin side of the system is very easy to use. I can find assets and check how they are doing easily.

Cons:

Camera system is not part of all admin rights and only being able to be assigned rights to only one permission level for the entire company.

The Help of Samsara

Comments: Samsara has helped our business in many ways. Being able to see what our drivers are doing helps our company save money. Being able to submit videos when collisions happen and submitting to our insurance company is a bonus.

Pros:

I like that we can see where every truck is and what they are doing. When we are paying drivers by the hour we monitor where they are going at all times and how long they are at every stop. The cameras have especially helped us when accidents are video captured when submitting to ICBC.

Cons:

The video history somehow needs to be captured when needed. I believe you can only go back a certain number of weeks, or you cannot request to retrieve it.

A life saver for fleet safety.

Comments: Samsara is awesome and as long as I am responsible for a drivers safety, the vehicle will have a Samsara camera.

Pros:

The things I like most about Samsara is it helps with investigations and litigation. I think the ability to verify driver behavior when the public calls in to report a concern is critical. Being updated on when something happens that I need to be aware of makes monitoring team safety much easier.

Cons:

Sometimes it reports things that shouldnt be reported. Seatbelt violations when the person is very clearly wearing a seatbelt, or a stop sign violation when the stop sign was for a different lane.
