choose better software
About WordPress
World's most popular software for creating blogs and websites. It is open source software that is free to use.
Wonderful experience using WordPress app and all its rich features for a few years now. I really enjoy building a community, developing friendships, and meaningful discussions along the way.
Defective plugins can be a problem when using Wordpress. In some cases, plugins can slow down the performance of a website, and sometimes become a gateway to a hacking attack.

Best CMS on the long term
Comments: We used WordPress to start a website from scratch. Straightforward setup and management and a great support of plugins for practically any task we could think of.
Pros:
With your server, WordPress is very customizable and cheap CMS to manage.
Cons:
Managing constant updates (of plugins) is sometimes time consuming.
Alternatives Considered:
Great but!
Comments: Overall it is a quick and easy way to get a website up.and running. I think the plugins should have to pass some kind of test that they work with your version of Wordpress before they are put into the plugins library
Pros:
Easy to setup up websites. Get up and running in no to time.
Cons:
Plug-ins have to updated all the time and they crash your website a lot.
Alternatives Considered:
Great for Web Pros, Not Great for Sole Proprietor
Comments: I work mainly with self-employed individuals and small businesses that do not have an in-house web design team. Because of this, I usually do not recommend WordPress to my clients. For the everyday business owner trying to edit their own website, WordPress can be overwhelming & very difficult to navigate.
Pros:
It offers the ability to completely customize and have full control over every aspect & function of your website. You can easily manage SEO. Great for web design professionals and businesses with an in-house web design team.
Cons:
It is difficult for anyone who does not have web design experience to use. It can be easily hacked if you do not properly secure your site.
Is Wordpress For You?
Comments: I have lost a few Wordpress websites and blogs due to hacking, but through it all I have learned to overcome the hacks. I made a consistent income from my elearning tools, book promotion and affiliate links. I couldn't have done it without such a versatile website that can be used with many resources.
Pros:
I have used Wordpress for over ten years with a separate hosting plan. It's been very versatile because of the plugins I use that make my site whatever I need it to be. With knowledge of SEO and SEO templates by Envato I have been able to get free targeted traffic over the years. Wordpress is free to use with a host other than Wordpress.
Cons:
Wordpress is easy to hack. As a user I need to protect my site daily because of many hacker attacks. Many solutions were very expensive so I learned how to overcome every hacking issue with free security software and a few actions to protect my login details. Using Wordpress requires security prevention daily, so automated security is needed to save your site and time. There is no customer service when using a different host than Wordpress.
My Take on Wordpress
Comments: I have a few and I like using wordpress for my blog content. I like the functionality
Pros:
The functionality and Easy to use. Newbie friendly
Cons:
The need for Plug in application and most of them are paid
Alternatives Considered:
Excellent website engine.
Comments: Create and manage our websites using Wordpress. Excellent product.
Pros:
Takes some time to learn the user interface. However, it is full-featured and once templates are set, easy to manage and maintain.
Cons:
Takes some time to learn the user interface.
Alternatives Considered:
Older Texhnology
Comments: It still use same old technology . It needs to innovate the way it works .
Pros:
Easy UI to make site . Managed Wordpress are easier as all necessary files are installed
Cons:
If the plugin is backward that Wordpress than the website does not display. Very difficult to get back the website. Found easily gets hacked if you do not follow up to date things .
Alternatives Considered:
Cumbersome
Comments: I used Wordpress for several sites, but it was confusing to site-users who wished to do some site management.
Pros:
The bare basics are free. If you want a simple blog, it is easy to maintain.
Cons:
On the back-end, WordPress can get convoluted quickly.
Alternatives Considered:
Amazing flexibility and power for a price
Comments: WordPress is great for those with some technical savvy, but there is a learning curve.
Pros:
The absolute flexibility in tools, plugins, and therefore designs and capabilities afforded by the platform.
Cons:
That sheer flexibility has a cost. There are many moving parts. WordPress can be amazing in the hands of someone who is patient, has some technical aptitude, and willing to learn how to navigate the platform. Otherwise, for many business owners busy with running their business, WP requires quite a bit of knowledge, e.g., being careful of core updates breaking plug ins, or plug in updates not working with their WP install. Then there's backups, security, CDNs, image optimisation, caching, choosing a suitable host for their install, etc.
Alternatives Considered:
Legacy systems
Comments: Average. The learning curve can be easy at the beginning, when using templates, but steep when creating customized components or design.
Pros:
It can be set up quickly through different providers, like Elementor or Divi, or directly on Wordpress.
Cons:
Too much time consuming to customize sections following design trends, brand guidelines or requirements. You need many additional plugins and code development to achieve professional results
Wordpress for Websites
Comments: Overall I have enjoyed using Wordpress and it is my go-to for websites.
Pros:
I host and manage most of my sites on Wordpress as it's the most customizable while also being easy to use without needing a lot of coding knowledge or expertise.
Cons:
There can be issues from time to time and plugins constantly need to be updated.
Why I choose WordPress for my business and my clients
Comments:
Love it.
Love to hate it!
Best Hosting platform out there!
Pros:
Overall best web hosting platform. Access to plugins for every solution. Lots of public documentation to learn from/use. Lots of developers out there. Lots of features with baseline product.
Cons:
Needs a plugin for everything. It can be very difficult to reach peak design & functionality. Very easy to set up basic site.
WordPress is the way to go
Pros:
I've been growing with this platform as a developer and entrepreneur. It has been an amazing journey so far because it has shifted from a "blog platform" to a "do whatever you want with it" platform. In my company we've already worked with SO many different project - and some really big. The flexibility of WordPress is amazing and if we know how to work with it, this can be very powerful! I'm obviously referring to the open-source solution, not the wordpress.com version.
Cons:
The well known cons are related to the way WP saves information into database and how it works with it. That's basically the biggest problem with it. But that's also something that when we know what we are doing, we can actually play with our own tables or even our separate database, Everything is possible!
Alternatives Considered:
Good for enthusiastic newbies
Comments: I have been using it to maintain my website for three years now. I feel that I would need to learn a lot more to make more progress with the building of it, as for now I'm still looking very basic! Sometimes I wonder if build-in support could be more comprehensive.
Pros:
It is reminiscent of old-style blogging and is fairly intuitive for building and maintaining a website. The tools are accessible and there is lots of support online if finding things hard. The layout is mostly clean and the site is generally responsive.
Cons:
Sometimes there is jargon that could be offputting to someone starting out, and the purpose of some tools is not always immediately clear.
Alternatives Considered:
The Best of the Best
Comments: Nothing but rave reviews here. Would switch all my clients over if possible.
Pros:
I love the ability for 3rd party involvement! Flexibility!
Cons:
Hard to say. I have no complaints! Possibility overload!
Despite a few limitations WordPress is Brilliant!
Comments: Overall WordPress has been easy to use and update, with easy and secure access enabled for our member contributors around the world. However, we may have stretched use of WordPress to its limit.
Pros:
WordPress has been an excellent tool for us as we build our website platform for an international online community.
Cons:
We are heavy users of plugins and the plugins (now counting over 50 in our website structure and functionality) have made the website very heavy and slow to load. This has penalized us on Google and is a disadvantage.
If you're not using WordPress, then you should!
Comments: Overall WordPress is a 10/10 from us, it has made our website management easy, things can be added or changed across the whole site quickly and without hassle. It really was a game changer for us!
Pros:
We have been using WordPress for many years, it makes rolling out and managing a consistently branded website incredibly easy. The great thing is that you can customise your WordPress site as much or as little as you want. From the management of content and media to the installation of plugins or updating WordPress itself, everything works seamlessly. We have been very happy with our experience and would recommend to anyone. Another great plus
Cons:
Although fairly straight forward, if you are not comfortable setting up a web application or SQL database or using PHP, installing and setting up WordPress could be tricky. Having said that there are plenty of tutorials available on the web and setup only has to be done once. Then you are free to make things as simple or as complicated as you want with the customisation of templates or the creation of your own.
WordPress is a fantastic platform for creating websites due to its user-friendly interface, extensive customization options.
Comments: Its intuitive interface, vast array of themes and plugins, and strong community support have made it my preferred platform for building websites. While there have been occasional challenges with performance optimization and updates, its flexibility and functionality outweigh any drawbacks.
Pros:
What stands out most about WordPress is its flexibility and scalability. With its extensive library of themes and plugins, users can create virtually any type of website, from simple blogs to complex e-commerce sites. Its user-friendly interface and robust community support further enhance its appeal for both beginners and experienced developers.
Cons:
One aspect of WordPress that could be improved is its performance optimization. While WordPress itself is highly customizable, some themes and plugins may impact site speed and loading times, requiring careful selection and optimization efforts. Additionally, managing updates for themes, plugins, and the core software can sometimes be cumbersome.
My favorite tool when building any website
Comments: As for me, WordPress.com was a great way to get exposure and display my app projects in a matter of clicks. Working with a friendly interface and with a mobile version was a great convenience. Nevertheless, as I move forward, it is apparent that the customization limits and lack of plugins will lead me to want a self-hosted WordPress for more control and convenience.
Pros:
Working as a mobile app developer, I found the mobile-friendly designs available on WordPress.com appealing. I could assure you that I am comfortable whether it is a blog or a portfolio as long as you are able to present it beautifully. Little do they know, even the blogging abilities built into the software are great – helping with writing articles and posting news.
Cons:
From a developers point of view, I found the customization options a bit restrictive. There were some missing pieces when it came to micromanaging designing. Beyond this, the basic plan has many limitations on how many plugins and themes can be installed, which was somewhat annoying.
Long time Wordpress User
Comments: I have used Wordpress for over 10 years. It has facilitated me building over 150 websites over the years and had got better and better over the years. With the right theme and plugins the options are endless.
Pros:
There are plugins for almost everything, the best ones are paid ones but sometimes you can find a free one that does the job. The fact that it is largely open source means that it moves with the community using it and gets upgraded and checked more than most. Once you know how to use it it is fully customiseable, the options are endless and its easy to deploy and give your users access to it with some training.
Cons:
The back end interface can be tricky to teach others how to use. Sometimes solutions that you'd think would be buyilt into the core arent and you have to find a plugin to do it. free plugins arent always as secure as they could be and support can be dropped so i always end up going with Paid options from bigger companies.
A complete CMS
Comments: A well build and secure platform which you can use it with different themes and plugins. Because WordPress is a widly used platform it is alays up to date with the latest technologies for websites.
Pros:
A straightforward and versatile content management system. It is easy to use and customize after your needs. I like that I can change the design by myself with the help of different drag and drop builder or custom themes. With the different plugins I can add whatever functionality I need to the website or increase SEO and page load speed. The functions that can be added are limtless and somehow easy.
Cons:
Because is so popular the security must be strengthen and keep updated all the plugins and themes where sometimes can appear incompatibilities and errors between them.
Build Your Blog On Wordpress
Comments: I have had a good blogging experience with Wordpress for over the last 12 years. I plan to keep it for many more years because it is something valuable to me.
Pros:
I have been blogging with WordPress for over 12 years now. I enjoy the ability to build your own website or blog from scratch or using on of their themes. It is an easy platform to blog on due to the way the platform is built. For me, it’s easy to understand and easy to learn from creating blog posts to creating pages for your website that you have created. I like the fact that you get a domain with each purchase of a monthly plan.
Cons:
I don’t like the monthly price for my website because it seems too high. I also did not like that. WordPress has partnered with Jetpack. The entire thing seemed confusing at first until I figured it out.
Wordpress the best CMS
Comments:
I like Wordpress, the interface (all menus on the left and the working area in the rest of the screen), there are many sections, some created by plugins. I mostly work with page section after I set the plugins I need.
Updates are frequent. You can have a preview in real time of your webpage (on desktop and mobile devices), speaking about tablet and smartphone I suggest to have a look from those devices instead of wordpress preview.
Wordpress is perfect for personal and business websites, many features of templates and plugin are free.
A really good CMS i recommend.
Pros:
Wordpress is a free CMS that allows you to create many kind of websites. It has a lot of templates and plugin (both free or "premium") and you can build your website in many ways. I usually prefer using Elementor plugin. Setup is easy, you will need an already configured database to be linked to Wordpress. Even newbies can start producing websites, the learning curve is about one week or less. There is a lot of documentation on internet in case of need.
Cons:
Too many advertisement and reminders in every section, I always have to close them because the fill the entire page. The mobile preview may not reflect what you will really see on your tablet/smartphone
Wordpress is great
Pros:
Super flexible and there is a huge community to help you do whatever is needed.
Cons:
Someone will need to maintain it. It's like grass in a yard - someone needs to mow and take care of it, or it won't look super.
An instant web building tool for every developer
Comments: Well, that is understandable it did take time to learn. It is arguably the most feature-complete website builder available. Once you know WordPress, other builders are super easy because they are mostly drag-and-drop.
Pros:
It's so versatile WordPress really is. All kinds of cool things you can add with apps and plugins, though. It gets a bit tricky to learn at first, but has beginner tools that can be used. I like that it can be simple or complex.
Cons:
Word-press will need its plugins in everything. It's hard to perfect, but it's super easy to start a basic site. WordPress is great! I've used it for ages.
